Wanda Pepin, Owner/Operator of Vintage Fashion and Art
As an artist, I became interested in fashion illustration and art as a way to express my own art. I have loved fashion as long as I can remember and was determined to merge fashion with my art. I always saw fashion as art and designers as artists.
While researching fashion, fashion history and designers I became aware that there wasn't an easy way to research out fashion. It was difficult to find articles and most importantly, the photos were disbursed everywhere on the internet. It took some digging and frustration to find information and photography, until I came across museums that were collecting vintage fashion, art and accessories. Even then, it was difficult as you had to dig into multiple layers in their websites. The fashions weren't arranged by designer, decade or had any logical order at all to find what you wanted to look at.
During this time, I also began my own vintage dress collection. It became even more important to be able to date the dresses I was buying, so that I knew I was getting an authentic garment. So I decided to fill the need for good photographs of vintage fashion taken from museum collections. The idea was to encourage donations to help the museums continue to collect and preserve vintage fashion and in return, show their collections, by decade in order of the year. This gives an easy pictorial glance at the progression of fashion. It then becomes easy to date a garment, see the progression of a favorite designer and their labels, show the trends, the fabrics and make it very easy to get more information. Clicking on the photo launches you into the museum archives where you can see more photos and details about the garment, art or accessory.
I also decided to add my own vintage dress collection and offer certain pieces for sale. I've invited other quality reputable vintage collectors to do the same. Now vintage fashion collectors have one place where they can research, enjoy and collect fashion items. It a wonderful marriage of resources.
